Sorrel’s main ingredient, Hibiscus, is filled with antioxidants, and has been traditionally used to support heart health, cholesterol, UTI’s, and blood pressure balance. You may have heard of this low calorie drink by it’s other name variations such as Agua de Jamaica, Roselle, or Guinea Sorrel. Clove provides sorrel with some of it’s spice and has been known to support metabolism by regulating appetite, aiding in pain relief thanks to the compound eugenol, and remineralizing the body. Sorrel Recipe
Single Cup Serving
Ingredients:
1 teaspoon Hibiscus flowers (Hibiscus sabdariffa)
Pinch of 1 ground Clove
1 ground Cardamom pod
1 strip of Orange Peel
Pinch of 1 ground star Anise
1-2 teaspoons of MAAT Apothecary’s Infused Spiced Honey (Currently Available at these retailers)
Instructions:
Bring water to a rolling boil.
Add Sorrel herbs to a mesh strainer or muslin
Pour 1 cup of boiling water over your Sorrel herbs
Allow to steep for 5 to 10 minutes (tartness and other flavors will increase with infusion time)
Strain Sorrel
Add a teaspoon or 2 of spiced honey to taste, stir and enjoy!
*Sorrel will remain fresh & safe for approximately 3 days refrigerated
